Magic on the Radio? How do you do that?

Posted by Chris on January 27, 2012 at 1:55 PM

I can safely say that performing magic on the Radio is more challenging than trying to get an elephant to appear.. As part of the promotion of FHTP I have appeared on both Harrogate Hospital Radio and BBC Radio York in the space of a week! It was fascinating to gain an insight into the workings of the wireless... Many thanks to Scott Wall of Harrogate Hospital Radio - a volunteer run station that greatly benefits patient well-being. Please donate if you can at Harrogate Hospital Radio.

Additionally, I appeared on Russell Walker's lunchtime show on BBC Radio York. To listen again to my interview/performance, held on the 27th January on BBC Radio York follow the link and skip to around 40 minutes into the show. Chris Cassells on BBC Radio York

From Houdini to Potter - Review by James Ward MMC

Posted by Chris on November 27, 2011 at 12:10 AM

Kind thanks to Member of The Magic Circle and former President of The Harrogate Society of Magicians, James Ward, for writing up this review.

On the 19th November, Chris Cassells’ one-man show, ‘From Houdini to Potter’ played to a packed Pateley Bridge Playhouse. The evening – sold out well in advance – traced the history of magic through the ages, highlighting the work of some of its greatest practitioners. Over a fast-paced, fun-packed 75 minutes, Ripon-based Chris – a member of the famous Magic Circle – predicted events, conjured up ghost-like images and, at one point, brought the house down with an hilarious spectator-assisted routine reminiscent of the late, great Tommy Cooper. In familiar Derren Brown fashion, he plucked thoughts from minds, manipulated decisions and, in a rousing finale, filled the stage with spectators for one final, bewildering revelation. Chris hopes to take his show to next year’s Edinburgh Fringe and, if audience reaction at Pateley Bridge is anything to go by, he’ll soon be entertaining even bigger audiences with his stylish and captivating brand of magic.

World Premiere - From Houdini to Potter

Posted by Chris on November 21, 2011 at 6:45 PM

Saturday 19th November heralded the debut of my new show "From Houdini to Potter" at the Pateley Playhouse in Nidderdale. Performed to a sell out crowd, the premiere was a significant highlight of my magical career. Many thanks to all those who came along, I hoped you enjoyed it as much as I did. For those who couldn't make it, I'll be performing the act again at selected venues in 2012, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. For details, please see the Tour Dates section of the website.

Hornblower's Charity Ball 2011 - Supporting Ripon Community Link

Posted by Chris on February 27, 2011 at 5:19 AM

It was a delight and privilege to be asked back for a second consecutive year to perform at the the Hornblower's Charity Ball, this year in aid of Ripon Community Link; a local charity which provides support services and activities for people with learning disabilities. Many thanks indeed to all the organisers for inviting me to perform and a special thank you to A.M. Row & Son, Ripon Jewellers and Silversmiths, for providing the specialist props.

Mediterranean Magic

Posted by Chris on July 28, 2010 at 11:30 AM

I spent the latter part of July 'working' close to Valras Plage on the Mediterranean. I confess I am ridiculously jammy. Performing al-fresco on a evening to guests of Campsites in the area was anything but work, with the audiences themselves being massively entertaining!
